We developed the Plasma Face Shield to complement the shortcomings of existing face shields and masks at preventing infection. Face shields offer a number of advantages to masks. While medical masks have limited durability and little potential for reprocessing, face shields can be reused indefinitely and are easily cleaned with soap and water, or common household disinfectants. They are comfortable to wear, protect the portals of viral entry, and reduce the potential for infection by preventing touching of the face. People wearing medical masks often have to remove them to communicate with others, and this is not necessary with face shields.
The use of a face shield is also a reminder to maintain social distancing, but allows visibility of facial expressions and lip movements for speech perception. It's clear that face shields offer a high degree of protection from close range exposure to viral particles emitted through coughing and sneezing, however they do allow aerosols to be sucked in around the shield. High-risk workers in medical fields currently use masks and face shields in tandem. The attachment of a plasma generator creates a more effective system.
Face shields are useful tools in protecting wearers who are regularly exposed, at close proximity, to others potentially carrying the virus. They are especially suitable for:
